Patipat Chaiwitesh is an artist-designer who expand the definition of textile design to contemporary art under the circumstances of environmental concern. Within the “Traveling treasures” exhibition, Patipat combines methodology of both design and art into highlighting the process of changes in common stuff and how can we challenge its function from how it normally was.

Patipat wants to reflect the relation of cultural objects and the Buddhism believes, especially how we utilize such objects and their decomposition. This bit unveiled the culture of human and the life after through the objects of believes. He focuses on specific culture from East Asia in which the structure of this strong believe is deeply rooted in the society up until today.

Patipat mentioned the use of fire as medium in communicating with life after death. We believe that once we burn, fire send things out to the world beyond. But this fire type ceremony isn’t very eco friendly from our aspect with research prove.

“Travelling treasures” grounds, the position of being both designer and contemporary artist of Patipat whom questioning toward the solution of objects and their cultural contexts or even their relation to the life after death. The exhibition “Traveling treasures” will be held at Subhashok The Arts Centre from 27th June – 9th August 2020 with opening reception on 27th June, 18.00 onward.

Artist's Profile:

PATIPAT CHAIWITESH
(b.1986, Chiang Mai)

Patipat Chaiwitesh is a recent graduate from department of textile and tapestry, école supérieure des beaux-arts TALM — site d'Angers, France (2016) with a background in Visual Arts from Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand (2009). After graduated he has worked about design object and taken past in Exhibition “PLOYSAENG” Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC, 2010), “TOKYO DESIGN WEEK 2011”, Grand prize winner “Hoegaarden Different by Nature Design Contest” (Thailand, 2012), “Maison & Odjet” with PLATO FORM (Paris, 2012), selected entry “IF concept design award” (German, 2012) before move to France. France period, He was selected entry “Cover contest for 50th Mark magazine” (2014) and “Dare to Dream Design Awards” (DESIGNBOOM.COM, 2014), exhibited in “ART CAPITAL 2015” (Grand Palais, Paris), “Stockholm furniture faire 2016” (Stockholm, Sweden) and solo exhibition “Les Outils” (SOY SAUCE FACTORY, Bangkok 2016).

After back to Thailand. His work was selected for Early Years Project #1 exhibited in the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (Bangkok, 2017). He has solo exhibition “stitch up” (YenakArt Villa art gallery, 2017) and “Assimilate” ART CENTRE, SILPAKORN UNIVERSITY, 2017)

In 2018, He was chosen to participate in Bangkok Art Biennale 2018 (Bangkok, 2018) and was have a Group exhibition “Taste Test” selected by TCDC (Thailand Creative & Design Center) in Bangkok Design Week 2018. In the same year, he was invited to exhibition at KF Gallery, Korean Foundation (Seoul, 2018) and Asean Cultural House (Busan, 2018) after that his art work was returned to exhibit in “Out of Place” exhibition at S.A.C. Subhashok The Arts Centre (Bangkok, 2018) and He was recruited to Artist Residency Program at Bamboo curtain studio (New Taipei, 2018).
