BANGKOK CITYCITY GALLERY では、ビデオアーティスト兼映画監督 Chulayarnnon Siriphol による、2014年から進行中のプロジェクト「Give Us A Little More Time」をご紹介いたします。プロジェクトでの五年に及ぶ骨の折れる新聞コラージュの過程が、新たな息吹の中に生き返ります。本展示会「Give Us A Little More Time」は BANGKOK CITYCITY GALLERY の再開と同時に開催され、Siriphol にとってはギャラリーでの二度目の個展です。

2014年5月22日はタイ軍事クーデターの13回目となり、軍事政権が権力を奪い、「幸運の回復」と呼ばれるキャンペーンが導入されましたが、それはむしろ親民主主義タイ人への「政治的な二重表現」とみなされています。軍事政権が不注意なパロディーソングやその他の娯楽を紹介することで「幸福」という幻想を増幅させたのは、反抗的な市民を鎮圧するためで、実際には彼らは沈黙を強いられ、失踪さえも起こりました。こっけいな歌詞の一行は、Siriphol のプロジェクト「Give Us A Little More Time(私たちにもう少し時間をください)」のタイトルとなっています。

軍事クーデターの同日、Siriphol は日刊紙のコラージュを開始し、国政選挙が公表されるまで日課を続けることを誓いました。彼はイメージ・テキストの構成が軍事ドクトリンによってどのように強いられるか、という点からタイの日刊紙を切り抜き、彼独自の感覚によって、官僚主義の惰性と偽善を検証しています。アーティストにとって、このコラージュ制作は、不安に思うタイ国民にとってこれ以上信頼できないと見なされる、厳しく管理された新聞に対する応答です。

Chulayarnnon Siriphol(1986年、バンコク生まれ)は、映像の新しい可能性を探求し、映画制作と芸術制作の間を横断する活動をしています。作品を通じて記憶、多様な形態の物語、現実について研究を深めています。彼の作品は、フランスの第71回カンヌ映画祭(2018年)、シンガポールの第26回シンガポール国際映画祭(2015年)、および日本の第5回福岡アジア美術トリエンナーレ(2014年)など、アジアおよびヨーロッパの映画祭および展覧会で上映されています。近年の個展に、From Earth to Heaven, Organhaus Art Space, 中国 (2018年)、Museum of Kirati, BANGKOK CITYCITY GALLERY, タイ (2017年)、Behind the Painting, Art Centre Silpakorn University, タイ(2015年)など。
